Using Y. O. D (your on device) in class

Well, the experiment using the computers and cell phones to search and post answers for all to see went well. Students using a computer go to the web site, Poll4.com. The students, using their fancy phones, are given a number according to the topic question that is on the screen. They type their answer in and submit it. According to the students they really enjoyed this. We did have one student post an inappropriate answer, and the class immediately came down on him. He apparently didn't get the attention he was hoping for. Actually students even posted consequences to inappropriate class use. The students realize this is a novel approach to doing class work and don't want to blow it.

Examples of classroom phone use:
1. Send message to absent friend about assignments missed
2. Use camera to take picture of notes on board
3. Video a short lesson
4. Calendar on phone to post assignments
5. Send picture to email and then print
6. Posting answers to Poll4.com

Do students misuse devices at school now? Well, yeah! So far they only know to use their device for entertainment. Let's continue to explore positive ways for their use.
